چکیده

In this paper, Finite Element simulations using ABAQUS are carried out to optimize and simulate the superplastic forming of Ti-6Al-4V sheet at 900 °C. Microstructure-based constitutive models describing the superplastic deformation are implemented in the FE code through user defined subroutines. Two different forming schemes are used; constant strain rate scheme and optimum variable strain rate scheme. It is shown that the forming time can be significantly reduced, without compromising the uniformity of thickness distribution, when using the proposed optimum approach. In addition, the effects of friction and the operating strain rate on the final thickness and grain-size distribution of the deformed sheet are investigated.

Failure Prediction during uniaxial Superplastic Tension using Finite Element Method

Superplastic materials show a very high ductility. This is due to both peculiar process conditions and material intrinsic characteristics. However, a number of superplastic materials are subjected to cavitation during superplastic deformation. Evidently, extensive cavitation imposes significant limitations on their commercial application. The deformation and failure of superplastic sheet metals...

Study on Superplastic Grain Growth Model and Dynamic Simulation

The ability of metal plastic forming and the mechanism performance of the part are correlated with grain granularity of the metal. Grain growth is a prominent character of the microstructure evolution. It is very helpful for the design of process and die structure to study the mechanism of superpalstic deformation and microstructure evolution of superplastic forming. The microstructure evolutio...

Process Simulation for Optimizing Superplastic Forming of Sheet Metal

Superplastic forming (SPF) is conducted in a heated, pressurized die where direct monitoring of critical SPF parameters is extremely difficult. Numerical models provide a critical means of tracking the forming process, allowing the applied gas pressure to be adjusted to maintain optimum SPF behavior throughout the forming process. This paper describes how the MARC finite element code was used t...

FE-Based Analysis of Hot Forming Process Using the Flow Stress Prediction Model

In hot forming process, the workpiece undergoes plastic deformation at high temperature and the microstructure of the workpiece changes according to the plastic deformation. These changes affect the mechanical properties of workpiece. In order to optimize this process, both the plastic deformation of workpiece and its microstructural changes should be taken into consideration. Since material be...

Finite element simulation of two-point incremental forming of free-form parts

Two-point incremental forming method is considered a modern technique for manufacturing shell parts. The presence of bottom punch during the process makes this technique far more complex than its conventional counterpart i.e. single-point incremental forming method. Thus, the numerical simulation of this method is an essential task, which leads to the reduction of trial/error costs, predicts th...
